Daimler Double Six 5,3 Vanden Plas (1975) - sold!

The XJ sedan symbolized the dawn of a new era for Jaguar in the late 1960s. Its modern design replaced various models whose appearance was still strongly rooted in the 1950s. The design, which was overseen by Jaguar boss Sir William Lyons himself, was a great success – its basic form remained unchanged for many decades, making it the archetype of an elegant luxury sedan.

The Daimler stands for smooth, relaxed driving, even over long distances. The sports car-proven engine and stable braking system enable a brisk driving style. The interior is classically English, featuring wood, leather, and many round instruments.

The Daimler Double Six Vanden Plas offered here represents the absolute pinnacle of the XJ hierarchy. Only 355 left-hand drive versions of this model were built. These vehicles were driven by wealthy and discerning buyers – Queen Mum, among others, was driven in a Vanden Plas.

The many changes compared to the normal series included in particular:
– A higher seating position in the front
– Individual seats in the rear
– Two reading lamps
– Burl wood inlays with intarsia in the more elaborate door panels, floor mats, and virgin wool carpets from Birstall Evlan
– Interior trim in the Vanden Plas color “Tuscan” and significantly more leather
– Tinted glass
– Fog lights
– Automatic climate control
– 4 speakers and an electric antenna
– Significantly more chrome accents
– Interior adjustable exterior mirror

Overall, the Vanden Plas is on par with the Rolls Royce Silver Shadow in terms of equipment.

Our Daimler comes from southern France, which has certainly helped it survive the last 47 years without rust or welding work.
The high-quality interior is very well preserved and has a matching patina.

A collector's vehicle that can be driven with great comfort.

The car is offered with a fresh AU and HU, German papers, and an H license plate.

The odometer shows 27,445 kilometers—but it is certainly 127,445 kilometers.

The Daimler Double Six can be viewed, checked, and test driven here in Bad Essen.
