Daimler Double Six 5,3 Vanden Plas (1979)
The Daimler Double Six Vanden Plas offered here represents the absolute pinnacle of the XJ hierarchy. Less than 400 left-hand drive versions of this model were ever built. These cars were driven by wealthy and discerning buyers – Queen Mum, among others, was driven in a Vanden Plas.
The Daimler stands for smooth, relaxed driving, even over long distances. The sports car-proven engine and stable braking system enable a brisk driving style. The interior is classically English, featuring wood, leather, and many round instruments.
The many changes compared to the normal series included in particular:
- a higher seating position in the front
- individual seats in the rear
- two reading lamps
- burl wood inlays in the more elaborate door panels
- interior equipment with significantly more leather
- tinted glass
- fog lights
- automatic climate control
- 4 speakers and an electric antenna
- significantly more chrome accents
- interior adjustable exterior mirror
Our Daimler is a German car with, in principle, two owners listed in the paperwork. The first owners (a married couple) owned the Daimler for 37 years until the summer of 2016. The second owner then sold the car to the current owner in 2021. The latter never registered the Daimler and has only driven it 200 kilometres.
In 2010, the Daimler was apparently put back into service after a long period of inactivity. Since then, almost €30,000 has been invested in the car. The relevant invoices are available.
A German H licence plate has been in existence since 2012.
The car has matching numbers – the gearbox has been overhauled.
The high-quality interior is well preserved and has a matching patina.
A collector's car that can be driven with great comfort, as documented in the YouTube video ‘Der Doc fährt Folge 88’ (The Doc Drives Episode 88).
The odometer shows 23,100 kilometers—but it is certainly 123,100 kilometers.
